These days, I don’t go to the movie theater often. But today is an exception, with a back-to-back movie extravaganza. That’s right, I’m fully embracing the #Barbenheimer craze. To celebrate Oppenheimer‘s explosive debut, let’s take a trip down memory lane to revisit some of the cast’s past iconic performances. Oh and in true #Barbenheimer style, don’t forget to check out Emma Wargolet’s Barbie Ultimate 6er once you’ve finished sipping on this one.
Emily Blunt & The Devil Wears Prada
Biere de Garde | Hillman Beer
Emily Blunt had acted in a few previous roles, but it was her lovable office mean-girl character in The Devil Wears Prada that shot her to stardom. Similar to the buzzing office hallways at Runway Magazine, this Biere de Garde from Asheville, North Carolina, has a lot going on and might even intimidate you a bit. Yet, just like Emily Blunt in this role and beyond—it’s the underlying malty sweetness that truly defines its character.
Robert Downey Jr. & Iron Man
Classic City Lager | Creature Comforts Brewing Co.
It’s well-known that Creature Comforts from Athens, Georgia, exists in the Marvel Universe. Just ask Thor. The Classic City Lager is clean and crisp and brings as much comfort as endless rewatches of Iron Man. For both Robert Downey Jr. and Creature Comforts, there are many other exciting movies and beers to try. However, when you crave the timeless classic, reach for a Classic City Lager before you curl up to watch Iron Man again and again.
Matt Damon & Good Will Hunting
Boston Irish Stout | Harpoon Brewery
In Boston, Massachusetts, it’s not hard to hunt for great beer. And you certainly don’t have to look too hard at Matt Damon’s IMDB page to realize what an amazing actor he is. Located on the Boston Harbor in the vibrant Seaport District, your friends will label you “wicked smaht” after you pay this brewery a visit. Try their creamy and roasty Boston Irish Stout. The beer’s sessionability will help you endure a marathon of solving math problems—or contemplating which Matt Damon movie to watch next.
Florence Pugh & Midsommar
Harbor Royale | Cellar West Artisan Ales
The first time Florence Pugh came onto my radar was with her film Midsommar which left me stunned. A similar thing happened the first time I tried a Cellar West beer. Both Florence and this Lafayette, Colorado, brewery share a certain level of sophistication that elevates their respective movies and brews. In a more cryptic comparison, the floral notes of this “royal” beer pair particularly well with the horror/thriller. If you haven’t experienced either Midsommar or Cellar West, put both on your to-do list immediately.
Cillian Murphy & Christopher Nolan Collection
Ninth Anniversary Collaboration Series | Joyride Brewing Co.
It’s hard to choose just one of Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan’s movies. I faced a similar dilemma while attending Joyride Brewing Company’s ninth anniversary party this past weekend, trying to pick from its iconic collaboration series. Fittingly, Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan have collaborated five times and this year’s anniversary lineup featured five unique brews. Reach for a glass of the Hazy IPA brew from Call to Arms and Odell Brewing as you navigate the hazy complexities of what is dream and what reality in 2010’s Inception, perhaps? Either way, be sure to check out Oppenheimer in theaters and Joyride’s collaboration brews before both are gone.
Jack Quaid & Plus One
Yellow Rose SMaSH IPA | Lone Pint Brewery
A perfect match for this rom-com featuring two single friends is a SMaSH beer—short for single malt and single hop. And both this movie and the Yellow Rose SMaSH IPA from Lone Pint Brewery are best in class. The movie’s story is a classic friends-to-lovers tale, but sometimes it’s the simplicity that allows stories—and beers—to really shine. Just ask the folks over in Magnolia, Texas, making this delicious beer.
